As a page builder, you can enable a hierarchy filter on a board or a worksheet.

A hierarchy filter synchronizes the data items across grids by hierarchy, via the Rows and Columns switches within the card designer.

When you enable these switches for a secondary grid, end users can select a parent item on a primary grid, and the secondary grid will display the child items.

This is useful if you want to display underlying data — for example, your primary grid might display sales areas, and your secondary grid might display sales personnel.

When you create a hierarchy filter, the module used as a data source must contain parent and child items from a common hierarchy. You can't configure a hierarchy filter if the primary grid is based on the lowest level of a composite list.

To enable a hierarchy filter:

  1. Add your primary grid card to a board or worksheet.

  2. Open the page on which you want to enable the filter, in designer mode.

  3. In the Add Card section of the side panel, double-click the Gridtile, or drag it onto the page.

By default, the card will display, full-width, at the bottom of the page.

  4. Click Configure grid.

    The Card designer dialog displays.

  5. Choose the saved view to display on the secondary grid, and click Next.

For a hierarchy filter to work, the saved view must contain data items that are the children of the parent items in the primary grid.

  6. Using the Rows and Columns toggle switches, enable the hierarchy filters for the secondary grid rows and columns that you want to respond to selections made in the primary grid.
