Using the workflow with approval hierarchies

Is it possible to somehow tweak the workflow to identify and work with approval hierarchies?

One of the approval hierarchies could run like this

Deal Approver--> Purchasing Supervisor--> Account Manager--> General Manager

The ideal workflow scenario should be this

Step-1: It runs early in the morning every morning (at any decided time)

Step-2: It goes through the deal list to and finds two deals that are not fully approved -deal A and deal B

Status Conditions:

Deal A has been approved by deal approver and needs an approval from the purchasing supervisor

Deal B has been approved by the account manager and needs an approval from general manager

Step-3: Conditional E-mail trigger

For deal A , it can send a mail to the purchasing supervisor in this case to approve the deal

For deal B, the same mail is sent but to the General Manager , as he is the next eligible approver in the hierarchy

Can we somehow use a combination of rules or conditions in the current workflow design to work with such an use case? Any ideas?

    Hi David,

Thanks for taking time out to reply,

Maybe I didnt probably understand your solution approach but could you please tell me how would assigning owners help here?

A deal might have a different approval pending at any point of time and during the time snapshot , I would prefer the workflow identifies the approver based on the logic defined in the approval hierarchy instead of us manually assigning owners for each deal as its too much of a manual effort.

Or maybe I am missing part of the process , but I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
