Dynamic selection for subset list

A great feature to add to subset list would be the ability to write a formula for the boolean selection. If a user were able to write a formula to select whether a list item should be included in or excluded from a subset list, then I imagine, we would be one step closer to being able to create dynamic lists. Has anyone found a work around or a creative way to achieve a dynamic list?
